Reliable freshness control without a Petri dish
The Pullach start-up, FreshDetect GmbH, has celebrated a further success with its innovative and unique handheld for split-second quality measurement of meat: A long article in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” newspaper “High-flier – Illuminating freshness” (“Gipfelstürmer – Das Leuchten der Frische”) introduces the young company and its intelligent test method in detail!
Without expensive and time-consuming laboratory samples, the BFD-100 handheld measures the plate count on raw meat within a few seconds with the help of an optical method: Special LEDs shine a light on the surface of the meat. The surface and metabolic products of the bacteria in turn “reply by means of light”. The generated measured values of the meat just examined are compared with stored database values from laboratory samples and a reliable statement can be made regarding the “shelf life”.
The success of FreshDetect proves yet again, that it pays to support young companies along the supply chain! Lacon has now been working gladly with the “newcomers on the market” for more than 10 years.
