Questions about competencies

ODM stands for Original Design Manufacturer. These are companies such as Lacon that develop and manufacture products that are commissioned by other companies and sold under their name. One of the advantages for customers is that they do not need their own production facilities.

EMS stands for Electronics Manufacturing Services. The term is used to describe manufacturing service providers for electronics such as Lacon, who take over all process steps from development to production and delivery of electronic components.

The term industrial engineering covers the processes of planning, developing and improving work processes. Industrial engineering combines engineering methods with management techniques. The main areas of application include processes in small, medium-sized and large industrial companies.

When choosing an EMS provider, it's important to look at several factors to ensure your company's needs are met and a successful partnership is formed. Here are some key points to look out for:

  • Quality standards and certifications: Ensure that the EMS provider meets relevant quality standards and certifications, such as ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 13485 for medical devices.
  • Manufacturing capacities and technologies: Check if the provider has the necessary manufacturing capabilities and technologies to fulfill your specific requirements, be it PCB assembly, cable assembly or housing assembly.
  • Experience in your industry: Give preference to EMS providers with experience in your specific industry. Knowledge of industry-specific requirements can facilitate collaboration.
  • Scalability and flexibility: Ensure that the provider is able to adapt to the changing needs of your business and scale production as required.
  • Supply chain management: Efficient supply chain management is crucial. The EMS provider should be able to effectively source materials and monitor the flow of materials.
  • Quality control and testing procedures: Review the provider's quality control and testing procedures to ensure that your products meet the required standards.
  • Cost structure and transparency: Clarify the cost structure in advance and ensure that the provider offers transparency with regard to costs. This includes not only production costs, but also additional fees.
  • Communication and project management: Clear communication and effective project management are crucial. Ensure that the provider has appropriate communication channels and provides you with a dedicated point of contact.
  • Traceability and logging: The EMS provider should have traceability and logging systems in place to be able to trace the causes in the event of problems or quality checks.
  • References and success stories: Ask for references and success stories from other customers of the EMS provider to gain insight into the reliability and quality of services.

Careful consideration of these factors will help you to select an EMS provider that best suits your requirements and objectives.
