Charging e-cars is still a major issue for e-car drivers. According to a study conducted by ChargeX in December 2023, 58% of drivers charge via their own wallbox, 30% use public charging points and 9% mainly charge at their employer's premises. The majority only need 61 to 120 minutes of charging time to cover their daily mobility needs. A lack of public charging stations forces drivers to travel longer distances or reschedule their activities.
The ChargeX Aqueduct charging system, built by Lacon, is an innovative solution to the problem of a lack of charging stations.
It only requires a permanently installed starter module and uses a plug & play installation concept that facilitates further expansion.
The system can be flexibly retrofitted and enables companies, hotels and public facilities to expand their charging infrastructure quickly and easily.
Intelligent load management
At the heart of the Aqueduct system is its intelligent load management, which recognises whether a vehicle is fully electric or a hybrid and distributes the phases accordingly to make optimum use of the power connection. This distributes the limited charging current among up to ten vehicles.
Commissioning and safety features
Commissioning is carried out using ChargeX Remote Technology (installation guide via app) and does not require a qualified electrician. Integrated features such as residual current detection (AC and DC), automated safety checks and "Unmount Detection" (dead switch) ensure safe use.
Dynamic charging strategy and mobility data
The system uses an intelligent charging algorithm that takes both charging management and the user's individual mobility data into account. Users can specify their departure time and required range in a user-friendly app to receive a customised charging strategy.
Result
- Up to ten charging stations can be operated with one power connection.
- Plug & Play: the modules are ready to go within 60 seconds.
- Load management system that optimally distributes the limited charging current to up to ten vehicles.
- Automatic recognition of electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Bi-directional charging between connected vehicles easily possible.
- Individualised consideration of mobility data.
- Simple billing option for companies.
The Munich-based company ChargeX was founded in 2018 with the idea of offering intelligent multiple plugs for the charging infrastructure of electric cars. Lacon Electronic and its CEO Dr Ralf Hasler have personally supported and promoted the start-up from the very beginning.
The Aqueduct charging system is manufactured at Lacon's headquarters in Karlsfeld: from electronics and cable assembly to device construction with final assembly of all components, including quality assurance processes, through to dispatch of the finished product.
Since its foundation, ChargeX has already installed over 4,500 charging points for customers throughout the DACH region.
